Frances Harrison Gould of Austin peacefully left us to join her God, loved ones and friends on Monday, January 3rd, 2011. She was born on January 4, 1921 in Orange, Texas to John Edward Harrison Sr. and Lucille Wynne Pearce. Frances spent her childhood in Orange where she enjoyed playing outdoor games and sports with her brother John, cousins and childhood friends, who she kept up with throughout her life. The family later moved to Austin when her father became a partner in Harrison-Wilson-Pearson Real Estate which was founded in 1918. Frances graduated from Austin High School in 1939 and then went on to graduate from the University of Texas with a degree in English. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After college, Frances met her husband, Albert D. Gould while he was working in real estate for her father at Harrison-Pearson. On March 18, 1944 Frances married Captain Albert Davis Gould at St. David's Episcopal Church.
Frances and Albert raised their family in Austin, where she was a homemaker and enthusiastic gardener who had a very special touch with azaleas. She enjoyed maintaining her beautiful gardens, flowers and azaleas at her home until just recently. Frances was a lifelong and skilled golfer, and enjoyed many years playing her favorite pastime at the Austin Country Club. She loved all things related to golf and her friends who shared this passion. She also loved fishing and football.
Frances was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church for fifty-eight years where she served on the altar guild and was very involved with the church. Recently she attended St. Francis Episcopal Church on W. 9th Street and very much loved the service and people there. She was a member of the Junior League of Austin and the Helping Hand Home for Children, where she was an honorary member for serving over twenty-five years of active membership. It was a special place she held dear to her heart.
Her husband Albert Gould, parents John E. and Lucille Harrison, her brother John E. Harrison, Jr. and an infant son preceded her in death. Frances is survived by her daughter, Bette Cook and her husband Laney; son, John Gould and his wife Susan; and beloved grandchildren, Erin McCorquodale, Will Cook, Cile Cook, Harrison Gould, and Clayton Gould. Nieces, Sally Rahlves, Melissa Beltz, Jane Jamison, and Ann Murphy; nephew, Paul Harrison; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Harrison also survive her.
The family especially thanks the wonderful caregivers Shirley, Mia, Michelle, Henrietta and Shirley, and Shelly with Hospice Austin for their incredible care and service that allowed our mom to be in her own home to the end.
There will be a graveside service at Austin Memorial Park, Thursday, January 6, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. with Jane Dryden Louis officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hand Home for Children and The Salvation Army.
