Evelin Clara Ida (Meier) Becker, age 92, of Pflugerville, Texas, died on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Evelin was born on August 30, 1921, in Grandmother Clara Wolf's house in Bartlett, Texas, to Arnold William Meier and Frieda Wolf Meier. She was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bartlett, Texas on December 26th, 1921. She was the oldest of three children. Evelin moved to Sagerton, Texas, and graduated from Sagerton High School in l940. Evelin became engaged to Edwin George Becker but the wedding was delayed when George was drafted into the Navy during WW II. After his discharge, they married on September 29, 1946. The newlyweds moved to Abilene and lived there for six months before moving to Austin in 1947 where Evelin worked part time at Dismukes Venetian Blinds but later became a full-time homemaker and mother.
Evelin and George joined Trinity Lutheran Church and in 1954 chartered a new congregation called Redeemer Lutheran Church in north Austin. Evelin and George were very active and involved in mission work and other boards and committees. Evelin enjoyed working with the Dorcas Society, LWML, and sharing her love for Jesus Christ with many generations of children as a Sunday School teacher.
She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making sweet treats like homemade coffee cake and squash pie for her family and friends. Her other talents included sewing, crocheting, embroidery and quilting. If you asked her what things made her the happiest and made her proud, she would say, "my wedding and the birth of my babies. I had a good marriage and children that I am proud of." Evelin will be remembered for her constant, sweet smile and gracious hospitality.
Evelin is preceded in death by her husband Edwin G. Becker, her parents, sister Elsa Meier Lange, brother Clarence Meier. She is survived by her children, Larry Becker and wife Kris, Glenda Becker Overfelt and husband Ray, Steven Becker, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family would like to express our appreciation for all the loving care given to Evelin by caregivers and staff at The Cottages at Chandler Creek, University Village Memory Care and Odyssey Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 15 October, 2013 at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 16 October, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 West Anderson Lane, Austin, TX. Interment will be at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX following the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church to support the ministries for which Evelin and George gave so much of their lives.
