Eunice Arlie Muse Smith, beloved mother, grandmother and friend peacefully left this world after a lengthy illness. Eunice was born July 14, 1916 to Joseph Harvey Muse and Nina Hahn Muse. Eunice was the only daughter among five brothers and grew up in the Oklahoma communities of Pine Valley, Calington, Muse & Whitesboro and where ever her fathers ministry took the family. The petite red head was a feisty competitor and took great pride in the accomplishments of the Whitesboro, Oklahoma ladies high school basketball team, which she led to the state playoffs as its captain. She began her life long experience as the ultimate caregiver when she moved to Texas with a family whose patriarch she nursed back to health from a bout with tuberculosis. On November 22, 1940 Eunice married Oc Bud Smith in Comfort, Texas. The family lived in San Antonio during the war years and moved to Austin in 1945. The support of First Baptist church during critical times for the family was important to Eunice where she gave many hours of her time teaching in the childrens department. As her children grew up and began leaving home, Eunice directed her attention to her passion, real estate investment. Eunice Muse Smith was preceded in death by Oc Bud Smith, her husband of 54 years, in August 1995, as well as her parents and all of her five brothers. She is survived by sisters-in-law Thelma Alexander of Nolan, TX and Norma Gay Elliott of Marble Falls, and brother-in-law Hershel E. Smith of Arizona. She is also survived by her sons Larry A. Smith and wife Peggy of Waco, Rodney M. Smith and wife Katrina of Austin, daughters Susan S. Ebel and husband Andrew of Brenham, and Cherrie O. Smith of Austin, her beloved grandchildren and their families; Eric Smith of Austin, Adrienne Wiggins of Waco, Jennifer Ebel Dalman of Brenham, Rev. Holly Ebel of Houston, Brandi Young of Denton, Gabriel Smith of Waco, Mia McCraw and Elliot McCraw of Austin. Special thanks goes to all the staff members at Buckner Villa who so loving cared for Eunice for over 14 years.
