Brown, Erma Jean, age 89 of Buda, Texas passed away on November 10, 2020. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Chester Williams and Idahlie Wyse Williams. After her parents divorced her mother married Levi McDaniel. They had four children, Samuel Leroy, Leon, Betty and Anita. While growing up her family moved to various places in Arizona, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
She attended Jenks High School in Jenks, Oklahoma where she met her husband, Bennett Hutchinson Brown. After marriage she helped in the Brown’s Plumbing shop for a short while, until she gave birth to her three children. She enjoyed taking care of her children and her home.
She moved from Jenks, Oklahoma to the Kansas City area and lived there until retirement with her family. During the time she lived in Jenks she was a den leader and helped with Bible School a few times.
In Kansas City, she became a Camp Fire leader working with both of her daughters. She worked at Dobbs Elementary School as a lunch aid and entertained the students while they ate, with stories of her growing up. She loved telling about her growing up years, during the Depression, and all the trouble she and her brothers got into.
Jean did lots of crafts from sewing a Cookie Monster and Donald Duck costumes to crochet and plastic canvas arts. She enjoyed playing all kinds of games, especially card games.
After retirement she and her husband traveled all over the country and settled at Wintergreen Estates in Mission, Texas. They lived there almost 25 years. They made so many friends there, it was more like a family. After her husband died and her health deteriorated, she moved in with her daughter and son-in law in Buda, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Williams, Idahlie McDaniel, stepfather Levi McDaniel, her husband, Bennett H. Brown, brother Samuel Leroy McDaniel, sister Betty Jordan and her sons-in-law, Brent Roberts and Paul Tivis.
She is survived by her three children, Leonard Leroy Brown(Dian), Sondra Tivis, and Cheryl Newcomb Roberts, her grandchildren Phillip Tivis(Terri) Trevor Newcomb, her step-grandchildren, Robert Peck(Sarah), Ginny Thomas Barker(Eric), Aimee Roberts Mills(David),Bryan Roberts and Craig Roberts. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren, Xander and Samantha Tivis, and step great-grandchildren, Jackson and Logan Peck, Garrett, Brett and Emma Barker, Mackenzie(her daughter Charlotte), Rylee, Kloee and Allie Mills, Bentlei Roberts and Aaron Roberts. She is also survived by her favorite child, her dog, Lil Britches.
Erma Jean Williams Brown will be cremated, and her ashes will be scattered when the family can do it safely due to the Covid epidemic.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice which helped immensely during the last few weeks of her life.
