Eric Marshall Denner

He was a loving husband and passionate counselor and is survived by his wife, Cheryl Chaddick of 27 years, his mother, Pearl Denner (Los Angeles.) sister, Sharon Denner her daughter Stephanie, husband Frank, (New York) and brother, Arthur Denner. (New Jersey).

Eric was the principle owner of Austin Consulting and practiced as a licensed marriage and family in addition to a chemical dependency counselor. He moved to Austin in 2006 from San Francisco where he worked as a victim trauma recovery therapist at the San Francisco Trauma Center of the University of California, treating victims of interpersonal violence.

Prior to receiving a master's degree in social clinical psychology in 2001 from New College of California, Eric was a substance abuse counselor at San Francisco General Hospital and at the SF Veteran's Administration from 1997-2001. He received a Master's degree in Business Administration from San Francisco State University in 1998, as well as a bachelor's degree in psychology from UCLA in 1970.

After moving to Austin in 2007, Eric also served as interim executive director of the Texas Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (TAMFT) from 2007-8 and as treasurer of the Austin Chapter from 2011-13, as president of the Austin chapter of Texas Association of Addiction Professions (TAAP) where he taught CEU classes and planned the annual Austin Addiction Symposium. Eric joined the state TAAP board in 2014 and served as the association's treasurer and also as program director.

Eric was very involved in numerous 12-step recovery groups, along with starting several men's therapy groups and actively engaged in expanding recovery resources and services in the Austin community.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Austin Children's Shelter or the Christy Center of Austin.

An outdoor funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr. followed by a gathering at the Denner home, 601 E. 46th Street, Austin, TX

In addition a Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20,2018 at the Riverbend Church off of Highway 360.
