Emily Ellisa Tippit of Austin was our angel on Earth and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Emily quietly slipped away from us on Tuesday, April 12th at the age of 28. A native Texan, she was born in San Antonio on August 20, 1993 to Thomas Ellis Tippit, DDS and Mary Fulbright Tippit. She grew up in Naples, Florida after relocating there with her parents and big sister in the summer of 1998.
Emily was exceptionally bright and had an innate love of learning. She graduated from Barron Collier High School with honors in 2011 and earned her Associate of Arts degree with honors from Florida SouthWestern State College in Fort Myers, Florida. She then moved to Austin where she graduated with honors from Texas Health and Science University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. She was currently enrolled as a full-time student at Austin’s Graduate School of Integrated Medicine (AOMA) where she would have completed her Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine later this fall.
Emily was a lifelong advocate for animal rights, women’s health rights and saving the planet. She adopted a vegetarian diet at the early age of eleven and had later been completely vegan for many years. She recently decided she had done her part to protect the animals and save the planet and was enjoying experiencing a wide array of cuisines. Emily developed a passion for alternative health and lifestyle practices in her early teens, and she prided herself on her knowledge and her ability to help people that sought her advice and treatment for what ailed them.
Emily had many interests, and her favorite hobby was creating impressionist acrylic paintings. If you knew her, you already know that Emily had her own unique sense of style. She loved vintage clothing, and she enjoyed frequenting boutiques and thrift shops in search of special pieces to add to her extensive eclectic wardrobe. Our Emily loved the unusual, and she marched to her own drummer from day one.
As avant-garde as she was in so many facets of her life, Emily also loved history and tradition. She treasured her grandmother’s vintage record collection, antique furniture, and odd keepsakes from friends and family. She had very broad interests and was amazingly well-read. Pick a subject and she would converse with you on it for hours. Choose a song from your favorite genre and she knew the lyrics and would sing it with you. She was loyal to a fault, and she was the glue that bound us all together. She loved spending hours on end making facetime calls to her friends from all over the country. Recently, she had come to enjoy walking along the local greenbelt near her home exploring the outdoors and communing with nature.
Emily was always there for her friends and family and would laugh at how much “free therapy” she dispensed. She was a strong young woman who strived to make the best of any situation she faced. She stared down crocodiles face to face in Costa Rica, and got her revenge on an ostrich that once bit her hand by wearing the ostrich cowgirl boots she loved.
She was fearless.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents – Richard Wesley “RW” Graves and Dorothy Yvonne “Dottie” Powell-Graves; John Alvin “Johnny” Domaschk and Oleta Beth “Bethie” Schroeder; uncle, John Mark Domaschk, Sr., and grandmother-in-law Ana Cecilia Castro. She was also preceded in death by many friends whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Garita; their Siamese cat son, Felix; her parents Tom Tippit and Mary Tippit; her sister Taylor P. Tippit; her mother-in-law and three sister-in-laws of Naples, Florida – Gabby, Ximena, Belinda, and Michelle who love her and will miss her dearly; her aunt, Laura Domaschk; and her cousins Mark Domaschk, Jr. and Heather Andrepont all of Port Neches in east Texas.
