Emerson Kenney "Pete" Blewett, MD passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2008 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born January 10, 1916 in Denton, TX, the son of Emerson K. and Beatrice Blewett. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and the University of Texas Medical School of Galveston. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Texas Surgical Society, the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the TX Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He was one of the founders of the Austin Blood Bank, now The Blood Center of Central Texas. He served as a physician in WW II in the Pacific. After retiring from a long medical practice in Austin during which he delivered over 5, 000 babies, he owned and operated Westlake Architectural Antiques for which he and Virginia traveled around the world buying unique inventory, specializing in antique doors, mantels, and stained glass. Pete especially loved his home on Lake Austin directly across from Mount Bonnell. He was a member of the Austin Headliners Club, Tarry House, and numerous social clubs in Austin where his cheerful smile was always welcomed. Pete was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen Emily, and son, David Louis; and sister, Lucy Blewett Goodrich. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; son, Emerson Kenney Blewett and wife, Cindy of Kyle; also, Wade Goodrich and wife, Margaret of Dallas; Robert Goodrich and wife, Vicki of Elgin; Callie Goodrich of Paris, France; and Haddy Turner and husband, Brian of Elgin; grandchildren, Emerson Blewett, Hillary James, Bobby Montegue, Louis Montegue, Richard Smith, Maegan Blewett, Benjamin Goodrich, Mary Katherine Goodrich, Grant Goodrich, William Goodrich, Trey Hill, Virginia Hill; great-grandchildren Mercy and Dalton James; niece, Sally Fowler of Austin, and nephew, John Burwell Pope of Corpus Christi. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Gracy Woods II for the wonderful care given to Pete for the last several years, and to Lighthouse Hospice for their excellent assistance in the last several months. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Rd, Austin.
