She was born December 24, 1928, in the Adina Community, Lexington TX to Pierce and Bertie Alice (Sillas) Turner. She graduated from Lexington High School along with her future husband (Benny McDavid) in 1946. Elsie and Benny were married in 1947 and had their first child (Charles) while living in the Knobbs community. The young couple soon moved to Austin Texas where they bought a home on Avenue F. Her sons Sidney Patrick and twins Ronald and Randall were born while Elsie lived there. Benny had joined the Texas Army National Guard and received his commission to 2nd Lieutenant, and also the Austin Police Department. Now with four sons, she and Benny moved to a larger home on Morrow Street. There, she raised their family and was active at Crestview Baptist Church. Elsie had her daughter, Rebecca Alice while in this home.
In the early 70's Elsie would face many challenges; her husband was shot in the line of duty and was medically retired from APD. Her sister Bonnie was killed in a plane crash and she took in Bonnie's two minor children (Peggy and Gary Wagner, both now deceased). The home was now too small. Benny was in and out of the hospital so she found a new larger home on Tecumseh Drive and moved her family there.
She made this house a home for over 40 years. Her memories are etched in its walls and beautiful yard. Photos of her children, family members, and grandchildren adorn every surface. Her worn bible is lying where she could always refer to it for comfort and guidance; and now as an anchor for her children to find comfort in her passing, knowing she is with Christ.
Elsie was a farmer's daughter and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds. She also loved to sew and made many items for relatives and friends as can be witnessed by the many boxes of well worn patterns still gracing the corner of her room. She always had a smile to share and a warm touch to offer. Her title of Mother is her crown to wear.
Elsie is survived by her sister, Loren Beauchamp of Elgin TX, and her 4 sons; Charles, Patrick, Ronald and his wife Barbara, Randall McDavid and daughter Rebecca McDavid Yawn and her husband Mike. Her grandchildren; Christopher and Mitchell McDavid, Jonathon, James, Jared, and Jake Yawn, Scott and Margaret McDavid, Amy Horan, Kimberly Walker, David Evans, Aubrey Hamann, Heather and Callie Evans and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, M.L. Turner, sister, Bonnie Wagner and her husband Benny.
A special thank-you is given to Grace Hospice, our brother Randall and her neighbor Suzie Long for their tireless care and support during our mother's illness and passing.
