Ellen Elizabeth Bohlender Coats Ellen Elizabeth Bohlender Coats died March 30, 2004. She was born in Austin and lived most of her life in the city. She married John Edward Coats on June 5, 1937. After receiving a teaching degree from the University of Texas she taught 32 years in the Austin ISD, retiring in 1971. Most of her teaching was at John T. Allen Junior High and O Henry Junior High. She was a member of the Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Order of the Easter Star Austin Chapter 304; and Hyde Park Reading Club. Ellen was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband John Edward Coats. Survivors include her son John H. Coats and wife Judy of Hutto, granddaughter Jennifer Fickel and husband Larry of Keller, grandson John Hood Coats and wife Stacey of Round Rock, and great granddaughter Shelby Coats. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity or church of your choice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Heard, Harold Crutsinger, Charles G. Anderson, Robert Hosking, Scott Clay and Larry Fickel. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Woolcott and John Sheffield.
