Ella Lee (Fletcher) Williams was born on November 22, 1928, to Jim and Victoria Pearl Fletcher in Pflugerville, Texas. Ella Lee loved learning and would run across Highway 71 in Garfield, Texas to attend school before she had even reached school age. She attended public schools in the Sprinkle Community and later attended Austin public school at L.C. Anderson High School. In 1946 she married Willie Williams, Jr. and to this union five children were born, four boys and one girl. Ella Lee was baptized at St. Mary’s Baptist Church in Pflugerville, Texas. She later became a member of St. John’s College Heights Baptist Church in Austin, Texas under Rev. A.C. Clark. After she moved to Litton Springs, Texas, she became a member of Center Union Missionary Baptist Church in Creedmoor, Texas – Pastor James C. Matthew.
Ella Lee worked for the family of Charles Maund and to this day is revered as an honorary member of their family. After working in the home of the Maund family, she joined the staff at the car dealership where she worked until she retired in the early 1990’s. Her passions included quilting and cooking. She was known to rise early to prepare special holiday meals. If you never had her cooking, we are sorry, but that rice dressing and peach cobbler were the best. Ella Lee earned the name Gran from her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Much like her mother, Pearl, she liked having her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren near her. Many opted to live with her and some still lived with her up until her death.
Ella Lee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two youngest children, Ella Faye Johnson and Robert Leon Williams; twelve brothers and two sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Willie (Erlene) Williams, III, Austin, TX., Billy Joe Williams, Litton Springs, TX. and Jimmy (Chinell) Williams, Austin, TX.; two brothers, Clifton Fletcher and John Fletcher, both of Austin, TX. and one sister, Helen Wright, Compton, California; her 16 grandchildren and more than 49 great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
