Elizabeth “Liz” Whitaker, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. She is survived by her daughter Sherry Morris and her two sons, Norman Gray and Jim Kindred. Stepdaughters Shelia McCrary, Mary Whitaker and Lisa Simpson.
Born April 14, 1944, Liz dedicated her life to her family and her community, embodying a spirit of compassion and resilience.
Liz retired from a long and dedicated career with the State of Texas, where she made significant contributions through her hard work and commitment. Even after retirement, she continued to serve her community, working nights at Walmart, where she was cherished by colleagues and customers alike for her warm smile and helpful nature. She also had a lifetime relationship with Rosedale Baptist Church.
A true animal lover, Liz had a special place in her heart for feral cats, rescuing and caring for them with unwavering dedication. Her own pets were like family to her, bringing joy and companionship to her life. Her green thumb was evident in the beautiful gardens she nurtured, and she took great pride in raising Koi fish, creating serene and picturesque water gardens that reflected her love for nature.
Liz’s favorite pastimes included fishing with family and friends, where she created countless cherished memories. She also loved shopping, always on the lookout for treasures that would bring joy to others. Her laughter was contagious, lighting up any room she entered, and her generosity of spirit touched everyone who knew her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Onion Creek Nursing and Rehab, as well as St David’s South Hospital, for the exceptional care and support they provided Liz in her final days.
Liz is preceded in death by her husband, Wiley, and her mother.
Rest in peace, Grandma Liz. Your spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
A visitation for Liz will be held Monday, July 22, 2024 at Cook - Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home 6300 W. William Cannon Dr Austin TX 78749, starting at 5:00 PM. The Graveside will be at the Llano Cemetery, 1400 Hickory St. Llano, TX 78643, on Tuesday July 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
