Elizabeth Berry Small

Elizabeth Berry Small was born in Lufkin, Texas on August 15, 1916. Her parents were Jim Eddy Berry and Bessie Moses Berry. After high school graduation and her father’s death, Elizabeth’s mother moved, with her two daughters, to Austin, where Elizabeth attended the University of Texas. On November 25, 1936 she married Joe Austell Small. Joe was a writer and publisher of western magazines, among them “True West”, “Frontier Times” and “Old West”. Elizabeth enjoyed working with him in his literary endeavors. In 1986 Joe and Elizabeth retired to Westminster Manor. Joe died in 1994. Her son, Robert Earl Small, brothers Robert Meredith Berry, Carl Burleson Berry and sister Mary Sue Sindorf precede her in death. Elizabeth is survived by two sons, Joe Austell Small, Jr., of Austin and Jim Edward Small of Bastrop, three grandchildren, Robert Andrew Small of Austin, John Joseph Small of Austin, and Michelle Broussard of Bastrop and four great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held Friday February 10th at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Westminster Manor, 4100 Jackson Avenue, Austin with Jacqueline Baker, Associate Minister of Central Christian Church officiating.
