Elizabeth Boyd was born 11/11/1944 in Mexia, Texas, to James Abe Boyd and Doris Elizabeth Wilson Boyd. Her father, Abe, was from Enterprise, MS, born in 1910 and moved to Coleman after his education. He was associated with Haynes Ownby Oil Company in Coleman. Her mom, Doris was born in 1914, in Wortham, Texas.
They moved to Coleman in the late ‘40’s. Elizabeth attended kindergarten at Mrs. Fanny Rich’s school, before attending South Ward School, Jr. High, and then Coleman High, graduating in 1963. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a child, became a member of the First Coleman United Methodist Church, and felt His presence daily. She was a student of art and painting under the instruction of Winona Pierson in Coleman. Fondest memories of her friends were of riding with Elizabeth in her ’48 Pontiac up and down the streets of Coleman.
She attended Texas Tech University until her father’s death in September 1964. She moved to Bellaire and began work for Harris County. She then worked as a real estate broker for several firms, later working for Vonnie Cobb Realtors until she retired. Elizabeth enjoyed her career in residential home sales. She was close to her mom after her father passed, and Doris moved to Houston to be near her two daughters. Elizabeth was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Bellaire, and worked with children and youth in the church program. She had a giving spirit and developed many lasting friendships.
Elizabeth’s passion for arts and crafts lasted many years and she excelled in needle point, craft painting, and in making Christmas ornaments and stockings as gifts for others. She moved from Houston to Round Rock in 2020, where she resided at University Village. She led senior residents in evening sessions decorating wooden Christmas ornaments. She took great pride in the residents there and in interacting with them.
She passed on March 1, 2022, after recovering from Covid. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patti Gibson, and an uncle, Walter K. Boyd, II. She leaves behind a brother-in-law James Gibson, niece Clare Elizabeth, nephews, Boyd, Barry, and Blake Gibson, caring cousin, Kline Boyd and wife, Susie and their children.
The family and her close friends thank the staff of University Village and San Gabriel Rehab in Round Rock for her care during her final years.
A pending graveside service for Elizabeth Ann Boyd will be held in Coleman at a future date.
