Eleanor Luker Winn Young, born February 7, 1915 in Trinity, TX passed away on March 11, 2014 at the age of 99 in Dallas where she had been a resident of Presbyterian Village North for the past 3 years.
A resident of Austin, TX for over 60 years, Eleanor was the daughter of Robert Hickman Luker and Lessie Butler Luker, both deceased. Eleanor grew up in Tyler, Texas where she attended Tyler Junior College. In 1935 she married Jerome Vance Winn who died in 1963. Eleanor married Rayford Orwin Young in 1967 and he passed away in 2001.
She is survived by her sons Jerome Vance Winn, Jr. and daughter-in-law Anne Wilkinson Winn of Austin, TX; Robert David Winn of Dallas, TX; her stepdaughter Rayelma Young Halamicek of Bracketville, TX; grandchildren Carrie Jo Donnellan and Robert Craig Winn of Austin, TX; and great-grandchildren Alec Scott Donnellan and Evan Ross Donnellan both of Austin, TX.
A long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Austin, Eleanor taught Sunday school for over 25 years. She worked for the Texas Department of Human Resources for 20 years. Prior to working for the State of Texas she was employed by the Steck Publishing Company of Austin. An avid reader, wonderful cook, and supportive mother, she was also very fond of animals, particularly dogs.
Private graveside services will be held.
