Eleanor R. Pratt, 72, of Austin, Texas, passed away on April 27 amid family and friends. She was born February 27, 1940, and was raised in Michigan. She held degrees in French from Michigan State University and Washington University in St. Louis and had a lifelong interest in civil rights. She had careers in education and equal employment opportunity. Her work took her to live in Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and Boston, Massachusetts.
She was an active volunteer with the Travis County Master Gardeners and the Sustainable Food Center of Austin. Among her greatest joys in retirement were her grandchildren, who knew her as “Nama,” and the beautiful gardens she established at her home.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, John and Lucy Hatfield of Michigan, and infant sister Elizabeth. She is survived by her brother, John Hatfield of Michigan; former spouse, Ray Pratt of Montana; daughter, Leah Pratt Roberts of Austin; and grandchildren, Elsa and John.
A Memorial Service will be held at four o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 19th of May 2012, outdoors at her residence with assistance from Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Guests are invited to dress for warm weather.
