Edna Preuss Graeber, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Katy, Texas. She was born on March 3, 1928 in Prairie Hill, Texas, to Edwin Preuss, Sr. and Anna Wegner Preuss. Edna attended schools in Washington County and graduated from Brenham High School. After graduation, she lived in Houston and worked for Baker Oil Tools.
Edna married Fritz L. Graeber in Prairie Hill on June 4, 1949. Edna and Fritz lived in Lexington, Victoria, Beeville, and Floresville, Texas. While living in Floresville, she was very active and volunteered in church related activities at the First Lutheran Church. In 1966, they moved to Vienna, Virginia for Fritz's job and she went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture. When they moved to Austin in 1975, she worked at the IRS briefly and at Bergstrom Air Force Base for the USAF. She retired in 1984. While in Austin, they became charter members of Abiding Love Lutheran Church.
Edna and Fritz enjoyed traveling. They made several trips taking in all of the lower 48 states in the U.S. She became interested in Texas courthouses and later historical markers and other historical sites. They made numerous trips all over Texas photographing historical sites, courthouses and markers. She continued this with her son, daughter, and granddaughter, Lara after Fritz's death in 1991 until she was not able to.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Fritz Graeber; parents; sisters, Leona Mae Wellmann and Janice Marchand; and brother, Edwin Preuss, Jr. Edna will be sadly missed by her son, Michael Graeber and wife, Kitsy; daughter, Glynis McCain and husband, Victor; grandaughters, Meghan Torok and husband, Cody and Lara McCain and Jason Wallace; sister, Elsie Schulze; brother-in-law, William Wellmann; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Bathe and Menetta Wied; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends form 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Abiding Love Lutheran Church, 7210 Brush Country Drive. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made in Edna’s memory to Abiding Love Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
