Edith Knies Woodward died Saturday, October 13, 2007. She was born in Austin, Texas to Ted and Norine Knies. Mrs. Woodward graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and the University of Texas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi social sorority. After graduation from college, she taught at the Austin School for the Deaf for two years. Mrs. Woodward married Nick Woodward in 1940. Throughout their 60 year marriage, she supported her husband through his two successful careers: Attorney and Landman for Humble Oil and Refining Company, and Coordinator of the Petroleum Land Management Department at the University of Texas at Austin. After retirement from the University, the Woodwards enjoyed their homes in Austin and New Mexico, Longhorn football and baseball, and their beloved family. Mrs. Woodward was a lifetime Episcopalian. She was a gracious southern lady who was thoughtful of others until the very end. Surviving Mrs. Woodward are children Anne Woodward Hart, Nancy and Wilber Ward, Betsy and Ron Sullivan, and Claire and Steve Grant. She is also survived by her grandchildren: SFC Richard W. Ward, Nicolanne Hart McFarlin, Julianne Evans, William J. Ward, Kevin Sullivan, the Rev. Bradley Sullivan, Nicholas Grant and Stephen Grant. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 8110 West Court, Austin, TX 78759 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15. Her services will be at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 209 W. 27th, Austin, TX. , 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16. Burial immediately following at Austin Memorial Park.
