Mrs. Montandon is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Harry Montandon, her son Brian, her parents Harvey and Elizabeth (Goerlitz) Lisso, and two brothers Marvin and Lloyd Lisso. She is lovingly remembered by her nephew Kenny Mesker of Houston, nieces Marvis Hartman, of Lexington, Kentucky, Lesley Koster of Jacksonville, Florida and their mother Ruth Lisso. Also mourning her passing are daughter-in-law Elaine Montandon and a host of caring friends.
Eda was born in Concho County, Texas on April 6, 1926. She enjoyed telling stories of the West Texas ranch where she lived with her parents and brothers. She told of playing with the Indian children who camped with their families along the Concho River; remembered the joy of cooking and gardening with her mother and Grandmother Lisso, relived the great dust storms of West Texas, and told of wonderful summers spent in Pflugerville with her Grandma and Grandpa Goerlitz. She participated in all aspects of running the ranch and considered it was here she learned the values and lessons that would serve her throughout her life. Eda graduated from Ballinger High School in 1942 at the age of 16. She followed her older brother Marvin to
Austin where she attended Durham Business College. While attending school, she worked part time for an Austin real estate entrepreneur named Harry Montandon. He would become the love of her life. They raised one son together and operated the Harry E. Montandon Real Estate Company for over 50 years. Harry and Eda loved to travel, and saw much of the world together. They traveled through Europe, visited Scandinavia, Central America, and the Holy Land. They held hands on the beaches of Hawaii, and were awe struck by the beauty of Alaska. Eda loved New York City at Christmas time. Visiting the Holy Land again was her dream, and fittingly her last trip out of country.
Eda loved entertaining, serving delicious meals prepared with treasured recipes collected from family and friends. She loved shopping and "lunching with the ladies", was a wonderful bridge player and enjoyed needlepoint. Eda was an avid reader and enjoyed the game of football, attending Longhorn games when she was able but being an arm chair quarterback for the last few years. Eda was a giver. She found worthy causes and supported them wholeheartedly. She considered philanthropy part of life's journey and felt through giving, of yourself, your time, and your talents, were walking the road to a better place. She felt that when caring about others became a purpose in your life, you were truly living. Eda was a member of Westlake Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the chapel of Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, with graveside services to follow at Austin Memorial Park cemetery.
