Dwayne Keith Johnson Sr. age 63 transitioned from his earthly life November 14, 2024, while at South Austin Hospital, Austin Texas. With his wife of 43 years Loretta, Johnson and brother Jarvis Johnson by his side Dwayne Keith Johnson Sr. was born on June 06, 1961 to Albert Leon Johnson Sr. and Nettie Grace Curry in "the windy City" of Chicago, Illinois. Dwayne grew up with his mother in Yazoo City Mississippi during the school term and spent summers and holidays, with his father in Chicago.
Dwayne graduated from Yazoo City High school in 1979, he joined the United States army in August of 1979. December 26th 1981 he married his high school sweetheart Loretta Young. While serving his country in the Army he was stationed at Fort Hood Texas, 522 Ml Battalion, Korea, and Germany 4229th Flying Tigers. He earned his way to Sergeant and led his soldiers during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He ended his military career with a honorable discharge in 1992. He moved his family to Austin Texas, where he and his wife Loretta raised their 3 children, Kristi MoNee' Johnson, Keneisha ReNee' Johnson, and Dwayne Keith Johnson Jr. as well as their nephew, Justin Jamal Boddy.
Dwayne worked for Paxton Lumber Company, and maintenance at various apartment complexes around Austin. He also for many years worked at Vicky's Liquor Store. It was here that he got to meet so many from the South Austin, Dove Springs Community.
Dwayne gave his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a young boy. He rededicated his life and was baptized again on June 27th 2010 at Zion Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas under the Leadership of Pastor Randy E. Foster. Dwayne brought his smile, giving heart, bold personality, and his love to the church congregation. He served in the men's choir, the mass choir, transportation ministry, men's ministry, fellowship hall, Sunday church school, prayer meeting, bible study, vacation bible school, landscaping of the church grounds, and whatever else was asked of him to do at the church and for the church. During the pandemic in 2019 and the delay of Zion Rest having physical church service in the building, Dwayne started to attend Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor John M. Perez and during his brief absence as well as Associate Pastor Minister Christian Perez. It was here where he participated in the community fan drive, Feed The community food drive, The Brotherhood, and helping the deacons with the building maintenance.
Dwayne didn't only serve in the church. He had a very big heart to serve in his community and beyond. When his daughter Keneisha came to him with a vision that God had given her. He backed and supported her both, physically, and financially to bring Rebels for Humanity from a vision to reality. He served alongside his wife and all his children providing hot home cooked meals that were cooked in the Johnson family home as well as providing basic living supplies for those in our communities experiencing homelessness in Austin, Texas and Orlando, Florida. Dwayne also helped with giving out school supplies to children in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Austin, Texas, and Haiti. Dwayne was also known for grilling ribs and making sweet potato pies for his neighbors and other people he was close to in the community or wherever God placed him. Dwayne was honored by the Austin Police Department as The Neighborhood Watch for keeping down crime in his neighborhood, he had the the true heart of a servant of Jesus Christ.
Dwayne Johnson is preceded in death by his parents, Father Albert Leon Johnson Sr, and his Mother Nettie Grace Curry, his beloved Aunt Charlene Curry, Brother, Albert Leon Johnson Jr, and Sister Audrease ReNee' Graffread.
Dwayne is survived by his wife of 43 years Loretta Young Johnson. His daughters, Kristi MoNee' Johnson and Keneisha ReNee'Johnson, his Son Dwayne Keith Johnson Jr, Grandsons Mark Angel De Leon and King David Johnson of Austin Texas, Aunt Doris Young of Jackson, Mississippi, Mother-in-Law, Betty Jean Young of Yazoo City, Mississippi, Brothers, Charles Curry (Christine) of Chicago Illinois, Reverened Jarvis Johnson(Renee) of The Colony, Texas, Sisters Diana Weeks of Pflugerville, Texas, Marcella Johnson of Yazoo City Mississippi, Nephew Justin Jamal Boddy (Kathy) Bonus Grandson, Paris King Boddy of Austin Texas. Childhood Best friends, Ricky Crowder of Atlanta, Georgia, Sherman Stiffic of Austin, Texas Henry Priest, and Michael Young of Yazoo City Mississippi. Bonus children, Veronica Johnson and Fancy Byrd of Austin Texas Bonus Grandchildren, Anjelica Arias, Xavier Soladad Arias, Brielle Issac of Austin Texas, and Karson Josiah Brown of Leander, Texas,as well as a host of, nieces, nephews cousins, uncles, and friends who consider him a father and a pal.
A visitation for Dwayne will be held Monday December 2, 2024 6pm-8pm at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home located 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749. Funeral Service December 3, 2024 11am to 1pm at Zion Rest Missionary Baptist Church 3326 Paisano Trail, Austin 78745. Graveside Service Tuesday December 3, 2024 at 3pm Central Texas Memorial Cemetery Killeen, Texas.
