DW was born September 14, 1949, in Dumas, Texas, the youngest of Maudie Victoria King Brown and Oliver Harrison Brown’s five children.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, and Sister (Pat). DW is survived by his spouse of 41 years, Ethel Butts, a son, Jeff Brown (wife Sarah), two grandchildren Johnathan and Shelby Brown, and two foster grandchildren Erica and Tanya. He is also survived by siblings Richard Earl, Carl, and Linda Brown Taylor; one aunt, sisters and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and multiple cousins.
During the Vietnam era, DW served as a nuclear power instructor and a machinist mate on both nuclear submarines and ships, but was never on direct duty in the Vietnam Theater itself. He was honorably discharged after 8 years in the U. S. Navy.
After military service, he worked as a Final Test Supervisor and Instructor at Eaton Corporation on the Ion Beam Implanters. He then moved to Sematech/SVTC as a mechanical engineer on the Ion Beam Implanters. DW served as a volunteer on: the Flood Plain Task Force in Austin, and as a Water Quality Monitor at McKinney Falls State Park. He was the driving force in getting swimming allowed in McKinney Falls State Park.
DW loved to design and build and delighted in sharing his knowledge with others. He designed and built his present home with the help of his wife, son, and brothers. He also designed and built: a cedar chest, multiple Bible boxes, kitchen cabinets, and all of the desk and furniture in his home computer room. Even at the time of his death, DW was working on a stained glass carousel horse and an intarsa carousel horse but left them incomplete for someone else to finish.
DW made the world a better place for those whose lives he touched.
Our joys will be greater
Our love will be deeper
Our lives will be fuller
Because we shared your moment, DW
