Look up the word "diversified" in the dictionary and a picture of Douglas Ryon Henson would be appropriate. If he was moving COWS, you didn't know if that was four-legged animals or the Cell On Wheels (telecommunications industry). It is a strange task to try to describe Doug with very limited space. His interests were limitless. Anything he wanted to learn about he researched and taught himself and taught himself well. This guy could do anything he put his head, heart and hands into. Build a house - done; for his Mom in Wimberley. Build western saddles - done many times over. Build friendships all over the state of Texas - done. He was born in San Antonio, Texas the summer of 1951 and died on his Ranch in Kingsbury on October 12, 2008. During his high school and college days in Mississippi he was a premier drummer in a jazz band. He grew up "around" the electrical business by working for his Uncle, Alvin Pruitt, in his Electrical Supply houses. Doug had lived in Austin since 1973 and worked for several contractors, as well as Daniel Construction, Fluor International, and TI prior to establishing Henson Electrical Contracting in 1984 (which has evolved into Henson Electrical Communications). He and Kathy were married since 1976 and have two sons: Matthew, age 20, and Robbie (aka Cooper), age 17. They were "his pride and joy." In addition to being survived by Kathy, Matthew, and "Cooper" he is survived by his mother, Lila Faye Henson. His father, Billy Ryon Henson, died when Doug was only eight months old. He also felt like he had many other "boys" -- his dedicated employees; many have been with him for fifteen plus years. Last, but not least, he loved his animals- dogs, cats, cows, horses, chickens, bees, etc. He had business cards & a website made for his beloved Dachshund "Hotshot the Dog, No Ordinary Canine" --- Douglas was no ordinary person!!! Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2008 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
