Dorothy Anna Kennedy Spence completed life's journey December 8, 2006 after her battle with Alzheimer's disease. Dorothy was born August 29, 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Hobart and Olive Kennedy. She lived in Austin most of her life where she was actively involved in the community serving as President of the Austin African Violet Society, Executive Director of the Austin Chapter of the American Heart Association, and Chairman of the World Day of Prayer. She was very proud of her 40 years (18, 592 hours) of service with the Saint David's Hospital Auxiliary. Her hands were always busy sewing or knitting. Many afghans were made and donated for special needs and charities. Most family members and friends have at least one of these treasures of love. During her years in Austin she worked in many retail establishments including Slaughter Food Store, J.J. Newberry, Baker Shoes, and, along with her husband, Quality Sea Food. Her final years were spent in the Alzheimer's facility and nursing facility of Buckner Villas. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 52 years J.D. (Sonny) Spence and sister Jeanne Hart. She is survived by her son, Tom Roddy and wife Jo of San Antonio; brother, Hobart Kennedy and wife Evelyn of Cedar Hill; and nieces, Kathy, Dianne, Susan, Betty, Billie, Sandra, Barbara and Dorothy. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care and attention given by her caregivers at Buckner Villas. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2006 at Lockhart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Koenig Lane Christian Church in Austin or the Alzheimer's Association. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
