Dorothy (Dot) was born on September 5, 1930, in Huntington, TX, to the late Edgar Casper Sr. and Bertha Garlington Casper. She grew up in Huntington with her two brothers and three sisters. After graduating from high school, she moved to Houston to attend Southwestern Business University. Dot and her roommates loved to dance, and it was at one of the air force dances that she met her husband of 56 years, Jack Kohn.
Dot and Jack raised their four children in Houston before the US Air Force moved Jack to Yokota Air Base in Fussa, Japan. Dot did what any air force wife would do on her own: she sold their home, packed up their four rambunctious but adorable children, and flew them halfway around the world. While living in Japan, Dot volunteered as the school nurse, PTA president, and den mother to her son’s Cub Scout Pack. She also taught English to many Japanese businessmen who grew into lifelong friends along with their families. It was through these friendships that the family immersed themselves in Japanese culture.
After returning to the States in 1976, Dot began her 18-year career as executive administrator at Westminster Manor. Dot and Jack loved to bowl and joined multiple leagues where Dot served as league president. The love of this sport was passed down to all four kids and grandkids. In her free time Dot loved to travel, fish, garden, and gamble, not necessarily in that order. She loved doting on her grandkids and spending time laughing and reminiscing with her sisters and brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Robbie Kohn; her daughters Linda Kohn, Kim Kohn and wife Trish, and Jackie Roach and husband Danny; grandsons Robert, Joey, Carter, and Jake and wife Victoria; granddaughters Leslie Cade and husband Chetley and Jamie Gramling and husband Thomas; sisters Garnett Pampell and Betty Allen; brother Sherman Casper and wife Pat; sister-in-law Mary Virginia Casper; brother-in-law Herman Oltmann; numerous nieces and nephews from Texas, Ohio, Michigan, California, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii, and Alaska; as well as countless friends.
Services will be held Friday, Nov. 10, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 5416 Parkcrest Dr. in Austin, with visitation at 10:00 am and a celebration of life at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park at 6300 W. William Cannon Dr. in Austin.
