Dorothy Burr Durrenberger, born on Sept. 22, 1942 in Bay City, Texas, passed away Dec. 21, 2015 in Dallas, TX at age 73. Dorothy attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Anthropology in 1962. She resided in many places during her life including Bay City, Texas; Austin, Texas; Champaign-Urbana, Illinois; Yellow Springs, Ohio; Iowa City, Iowa; Mobile, Alabama; Thailand; Iceland; and for the last 16 years of her life in State College, Pennsylvania. In that location she was involved in many activities that she loved including Tai Chi teaching, shape singing, ukulele playing, jewelry making, stage acting, and many aspects of art including sculpture, painting and printmaking. She was a well-known member of the Art Alliance, winning prizes in juried shows. Dorothy enjoyed her membership in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County where she served on the committee to place art in the Fellowship's building.
A beloved sister and aunt, she is preceded in death by her parents; Sheriton Burr and Dorothy Hudson Burr and survived by her sister, Ann Patterson of Garland, TX; nephews Chris Patterson of Garland, TX and Jeffrey Patterson of Austin, TX; niece Janet Patterson Jackson of Garland, TX as well as one great-nephew and two great-nieces.
Services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish North Funeral Home on Sunday, December 27 at 2 pm.
There is also a memorial service being planned for State College, PA in the month of January.
