Dorothy Rose was born in Ipswich, England, the youngest of three daughters of Alfred and Sarah Rose Gooding. After attaining her General Certification of Secondary Education, Dorothy Rose chose to become a seamstress. Her expertise was in making coats and jackets. She was also accomplished in knitting, crochet, cross-stitching and quilting.
After she left her job as a seamstress she continued to use her expertise to benefit her family. From children’s clothes to baptismal gowns to prom and wedding dresses, she always answered the call to produce beautiful clothing for her family. She was also the consummate alterations specialist.
Christmas was one of her favorite seasons as it provided a creative opportunity to express her love in a small yet meaningful way. Each one of her children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses, and even great-grandchildren have experienced this special love in the form of their very own Christmas stocking.
Our mother married our father, Lucas, on July 11th, 1953. Dad was in the Air Force, stationed in England. As a military wife, Dorothy benefitted from experiencing new places, cultures and new friendships. Yet she was able to maintain her cultural ties with English Lady organizations in Ohio, the Panama Canal Zone and Texas. She was also involved in several Catholic ladies organizations.
We could do not do justice here in describing her impact her family’s lives. Suffice it to say she was selfless, supportive, always others before herself, a comforter and even had a spontaneous sense of humor. She was always the behind-the-scenes cheerleader. She cheered for success for each member of her family. In challenging times, she offered guidance towards a positive outcome. She was a calming presence in stormy times.
Dorothy Rose is preceded in death by her husband Lucas Louis Barrón Jr. and great grandson, Keaton Lucas Barrón. She is survived by her children Lucas Louis Jr., Rosa Maria Gonzalez (Alberto), Joseph F. Barrón (Beth) of Schertz, TX, Michael Barrón (Dolores) of Magnolia TX, and Louis Barrón (Donna) of Webberville, TX.
