Dorothy M. Abbott, 93, formerly of Farmington Hills, MI and Boone, NC, passed away on Friday, Oct 4, 2019, at her home in Austin, TX surrounded by family. Dorothy was born on April 25, 1926, to Harold T. and Henrietta Skingley. Raised in Michigan, Dorothy attended Business College and married Kenneth L. Abbott in 1948. She was a dedicated homemaker, a loving mother/grandmother and a talented and avid seamstress. Dorothy had remarkable skill in many fiber arts such as knitting, crochet and sewing, providing beautiful and creative items for her family and friends. Later in life her attention and considerable talent turned to quilting. She was known at her last residence in Austin, TX for the beautiful quilts which graced the hallways for all to enjoy. She sewed and knit for charity and generously gifted many of her beautiful creations to family and friends. Dorothy also loved music and was a skilled pianist. She is remembered for her twinkling blue eyes and welcoming and ready smile and generous spirit. Dorothy was a quiet, kind soul who gave help and support to her friends and family and was true to her God. Dorothy will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, Cal (Lani) Abbott, Julia Ryan, Su (Al) Butler and Carol (Richard) Warncke, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and her younger sister Mary Ester Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L Abbott in 2008, her parents, two sisters, a brother and a grandson.
A memorial service with family and friends will be held for Dorothy in the summer of 2020 in her
hometown of Grayling, Michigan, completing a full life’s journey in the place where it began.
