Doris Marie Miller, 73, passed away on March 3, 2006 in Austin. Doris was born to Fred Mutz and the former Anna Mittelstadt on February 10, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Springfield, Missouri. Doris graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1950 in Springfield and received her Bachelor of Arts from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri in 1954. She married Hubert J. Miller on August 24, 1957 in Springfield. They started their family while living in Chicago where Hubert was completing his doctorate in history. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1960. In 1971, the Miller family, now numbering seven children, relocated to Edinburg, Texas, where Hubert taught at the University of Texas Pan American (UTPA). In 1975, Doris began working in the Development Office of UTPA, retiring in 1995. She and Hubert moved to Austin in 2003 to be closer to their children. Doris was a loving wife and a kind and patient mother. She also had a special place in her heart for the many cats and dogs the family adopted over the years. She was an active member of St. Josephs and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches in Edinburg, and was a parishioner at St. Theresas Catholic Church in Austin. She will be missed by all who knew her gentle spirit and were touched by her love for her family. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, half-brother Harold Mutz and half-sister Bernice Barneich. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Hubert of Austin, their six sons: John Miller and wife Martha of Austin; Michael Miller and wife Johnna Randolph of Columbia, South Carolina; Paul Miller of Boston, Massachusetts; David Miller and Christopher Miller of Austin; Vincent Miller of Buffalo, New York; and daughter Marie Archer and husband Jack of Austin, and two grandsons Mitch Archer and Nate Miller of Austin. Doris family wishes to acknowledge Southern Care Hospice and Anderson Mill Assisted Living for their care and compassion during her illness. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2006 at Weed-Corley-Fish. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7 at St. Theresas Catholic Church with interment to follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
