Doris Jean “Jeannie” Cottle, age 84, of Austin, Texas passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013. She was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas until marrying the love of her life, Hugh, in 1946. She has been a resident of Austin since 1947.
Jeannie retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1991 after over 25 years of service.
Like her husband Hugh, Jeannie always placed her family above everything else, and made many sacrifices in doing so. She was known and loved by everyone for her sweet, loving and patient demeanor, for her deep concern for all family members, her acceptance of everyone despite their shortcomings, her bubbly personality and for her strong faith in the Lord. Jeannie loved family time and was especially happy when she could be with her grandchildren. Jeannie and Hugh enjoyed many trips to the coast and various other places, with their family and friends. She certainly had a knack for cooking and decorating during the holidays; her home was always beautiful and inviting. She was an exceptional cook, and loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Christmas Eves were undoubtedly a favorite, at which time her family and friends would come over for long evenings of fun, food and opening gifts. Saturday nights at the Cottle house for UT football games were a tradition enjoyed for many years. Those were very special times for the family and will be remembered forever. Jeannie was respected and loved by everyone who ever met her.
Jeannie married Hugh Edward Cottle in Elgin, Texas on May 23, 1946. They had two daughters, Sandra and Carol.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Frankie and Lloyd Hicks; daughter, Sandra Cottle; and her husband of 65 years, Hugh.
Jeannie is survived by her daughter, Carol Dotson and husband, Bill; granddaughter, Jennifer Elaine Olsen and husband, Kirk; grandsons, Michael Cottle and Shawn Dotson; great-grandchildren, Ashley Gibbs, Kierstyn Wiley, Kaija Cottle, Courtney Tiedt; and niece, Debra Hicks.
The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Our deepest gratitude to all the angels at Marbridge Villa and to Hospice Austin for their compassion, respect and excellent care.
