May 8, 1949 – April 3, 2025
Donell “Charlie” Lou Moss, beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on April 3, 2025, with her brother, Michael, by her side. Born on May 8, 1949, in Texas City, Texas, Charlie spent her childhood in Midland-Odessa before making Austin her lifelong home, with years in Dallas from 1988 to 2005.
Charlie graduated from William B. Travis High School in 1967 and later went on to become a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in English. Charlie was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved painting, baking, sewing, gardening, music, classic cars, and celebrating holidays with joy and flair. Her home was always alive with color, creativity, and warmth.
She had a deep love for dogs and children, who were instinctively drawn to her gentle spirit and playful nature. With sparkling green eyes and a smile that could light up any room, Charlie had a gift for making others feel seen and loved. Her wit was quick and sharp—often laced with off-color puns that reflected her mischievous sense of humor and unique charm.
Above all, Charlie was kind, caring, and deeply devoted to those she loved. Her presence brought laughter, comfort, and a sense of belonging to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her twin children, Megan (Chris) and Marshall (Eli); her grandchildren, Davis and John; brothers, Michael (Nancy) and Matt (Kara); her nieces Adrian (Alvaro) and Leah; and remembered by treasured lifelong friends, Beth and George, Rhydonia, Tibby, Judi, and Talley.
A celebration of Charlie’s life is being planned for her birthday in May. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Austin Pets Alive, in honor of her love for all four-legged friends.
Charlie Moss leaves behind a legacy of joy, creativity, and compassion. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
Special thanks to her many caretakers, Arden Courts, Brookdale Northwest Hills, and Magnolia Hospice for their loving care.
