Don was born in Enid, OK on May 2, 1931 to Wayne and Lillie Mae (Reed) Imboden. During his childhood, the family also lived in Altus, OK. Don along with a younger brother, Gary, was raised in a Baptist Minister's home, and was raised with high ideals: love your family, work hard, do right by others. These were the traits that Don lived by.
Don served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He served as a medic and was stationed in Germany. When he was discharged from the Army, the family moved to Denison, TX. He spent the majority of his adult life working for the Texas Department of Public Safety. He served at several duty stations, the final one in Austin, Texas. He spent 40 years with the DPS, 17 years in Driver's License.
Don married Winnifred Madewell on April 7, 1956 in Denton, TX. Don and Wyn had three children- Wynan Henderson and husband Sam of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the late Dionna Montgomery and husband Glenn of Irving, TX and Todd Imboden and wife Analisa of Gonzales, TX.His grandchildren are Brandon, Dillon, Kyndal, Josh, Nathan, Paige, Travis & Austin.
Don is predeceased by his parents Wayne and Lillie Mae Imboden, brother, Gary Imboden, daughter, Dionna Montgomery, and grandson, James Henderson.
A memorial service in celebration of Don's life will be held on Monday, February 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3838 Steck Ave, Austin, TX 78759. The family will receive visitors from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church or Hospice Austin/Christopher House.
