Donald Roy Fossett, born on October 7, 1935, in Kinder, Louisiana, passed away peacefully and entered heaven on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the age of 88. He was raised by his devoted mother, Gertrude Fossett.
He graduated from Kinder High School in 1954. In 1959, he received a bachelor's degree in business at Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and eventually received his MBA.
His distinguished career began in the ROTC while in college. He dedicated 30 years to the United States Army, serving both active duty and the reserves. Numerous honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, marked his military service. He served as a commander in the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring in March 1986. He was immensely proud to be a veteran of the United States Army. He had a profound love for God, his church, and his country. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he was an active member of The Church of Glad Tidings, where he found great joy and fulfillment.
He had a passion for sports, and his knowledge was truly unmatched. Friends and family often referred to him as the “human sports almanac.” He also loved history, food, and travel. Vacationing was high on his priority list, from taking the family on a two-week vacation every summer to traveling with his brother and sister-in-law in the latter years.
Don, affectionately known as “Foster,” was the cornerstone of his family. He cherished his roles as a loving husband, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His ability to find humor in any situation was a gift that brightened the lives of everyone he met. He leaves a legacy of laughter and love, cherished by all. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the joy he brought into the world.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Denny Sue Fossett, his mother, Gertrude Fossett, and his father, Shirley Roy Fossett. He is survived by his five children, Paula Coddington and husband Jerry, Patty Jackson, Mary Graham and husband Gary, Donna Mechell and husband Chuck, and Warren Fossett and wife Heidi. He was also blessed with eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Church of Glad Tidings Kingdom Builders. Don and Denny supported and loved this charity.
All are invited to celebrate his life at The Church of Glad Tidings (2700 Northland Dr., Austin, TX 78756) on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow the service.
