Donald Ray Barnhill, 76, of Austin, formerly of Texas City, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Donald was born on October 23, 1935 in Cisco, Texas to Cecil Barnhill and Etta Ruth Lambright Barnhill. He graduated from Texas City High School in 1954 and was employed at Monsanto and Sterling Chemicals. Donald retired from Sterling Chemicals in 1996 after 37 years. He led a very active life enjoying canoeing, camping, snow skiing and tennis. He also enjoyed spending time with his retired buddies at McDonald’s in Texas City.
Donald was preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene Barnhill; parents; and brothers, Bobby Barnhill and Raymond Barnhill. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Barnhill; sons, Gary Barnhill and Michael Barnhill and wife, Nadia. He is also remembered by niece, Vicky Clayton Hall and husband, Chuck; grandchildren, Scott Barnhill, Lauren Barnhill, Rebecca Barnhill, Andrew Barnhill, and Emily Barnhill; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in the Chapel of Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway in Texas City, Texas with Reverend Tony O. Rhyne officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made in Donald’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
