I am very sorry about Don's leaving us.  I knew Don for 20 years.  He was my first Deaf teacher.  I attended every class he conducted.  He was very patient with me and was a major part of my continuing in the work I have such a passion for. Thank you Don and may you rest in peace.

To the family of Don Adkins:  Don was my teacher, my mentor and most of all, my friend.  He taught me to sign and believed that I could become a good interpreter.  He stuck with me and never let me give up.  He loved his family and his children and gave his time and energy to anyone who was in need.  I will miss his stories and his humor and his gentle guidance.  The deaf and the hearing community both have lost a wonderful friend and advocate.  I thank God that he has found peace and to those he left behind, I wish you peace and comfort.  It was a priviledge being his student and his friend.  I pray that I never forget the lessons he taught me because that is the greatest tribute to his memory that I can give.

Dad, On Friday, November 12th, 2004, in the early afternoon hours God sent his Angels to relieve you from your long battle of cancer. You were quite a trooper though, always joking just so you could watch us laugh. I cannot tell you how unbearable it was to watch you in the last days and hearing you say "WHY does it have to be this way" while Donny and I watched and prayed.  The pain I feel at times have no words but only tears.  Mamaw (your mom) was your driving force up until the day you left. Your will to live was strong but your body was too weak to fight. It is hard to accept that I will never hug you or hear your laugh again. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone part of us went with you on the day God called you home. don,    even though i had not seen you in the past couple of years, you were still dear to my heart. you were one of my daddy's best friends and i have known you since i was 3. it was hard to see you lying in the casket, looking so different than how i remember. but then i looked in the photo album and saw a picture of you and my daddy, smiling. and that is how i will always remember you.
