On March 13, 2023, our rock, role model, loving father and husband Don Houston Walden, passed away into God’s graces after a brief illness with cancer. He was 85 years old. Born on February 18, 1938, to Dowell Houston and Alice King Walden, he was a lifelong Austinite who grew up along the banks of Bull Creek. He loved fishing, camping, going to garage sales, rooting’ for the Longhorns and Cowboys and especially telling dirty jokes. He was a carpenter by trade and could fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Anita “Kay” Griffin Walden of Buda, his daughter Donna Walden of Bertram, his daughter Becky Child and husband Chris of Liberty Hill, his son Chad Walden and wife Sheila of Liberty Hill and his son Jason Walden of Buda, as well as grandchildren Lyndsey Walden and partner Tyson Maynard, David Harmon, Kevan Harmon, Michael Child and wife Kane, Allison Child, Camryn Child, Shavon Harris and husband Brock, Sarena Ringstaff and husband Josh, Chance Churchwell and wife Reggie and great-grandchildren Justin, Blaine, Landyn, Hayden, Zeke, Zane, baby Haven, Cooper, Case, Levi, Carson, Hunter, Addie and Cheyenne.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dowell Houston Walden and Alice Laura King Walden, brothers Ben Walden, Bill Walden, Bob Walden, Roy Walden and Dean Walden, grandchild baby Walden and great-grandson Raiden Harmon.
Services will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home (6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin) on March 25, 2023, with burial following immediately at Fiskville Cemetery (1037 Fiskville Cemetery Road, Austin). Visitation will begin at 11am and the funeral service at 12pm.
The family will be gathering for lunch immediately after the burial service at the Southside Market at Arbor Walk (10515 N. Mopac Expressway, Suite B-225, Austin) and invite you to join them.
