She was born in Winfield, KS to Richard Collins and Diane Collins(Hamilton). Dixie worked at TRW Reda Pump in Bartlesville, OK for roughly ten years. She later relocated to Austin, TX in 1986 with her family. She loved Austin and made it her home.
Once here in Austin she decided to continue her education and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Concordia University of Texas in 1996. She spent the rest of her career working as an Accountant for the Texas State Department of Health with her final position being at TCEQ. She retired at age 63.
Dixie was known for her great sense of humor and her generosity. She loved being with her grandchildren, always talking about them to coworkers and friends. She was also there shortly after the birth of her two nieces, Pamela and Dixie Allen. She always wanted the very best for them.
Survivors include one daughter, Rhonda (Gray) Chaffin; son-in-law Michael Ray Chaffin; one son Ryan Gray; and her sister Tammy Allen of Thayer, KS. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Nicholas Gray-Ramos and Christopher Ray Chaffin that referred to her as Gram Gram. She also stressed that her cousin Fred Meeks from Kansas City was like a brother to her.
She will be greatly missed by her family and caregiver Clara Espinosa.
The family would like you to join us at Rhonda and Mike Chaffin's residence for celebration of her life on April 22nd between 12-4 p.m.? You are welcome to stop by anytime for refreshments, food and Dixie stories.
