Born Margaret Diane Jackson on Wednesday, October 03, 1934 in Ft. Worth Texas she was the only child of Virgil and Miriam Jackson of Arlington Texas. Diane graduated from Arlington High School, and attended college at Arlington State College where she met and then later married Ronald Ivan Luther. The couple eventually settled in Ft. Worth where they had three children, Colin Everett Luther, Christopher Dunn Luther and Clay William Luther.
Diane and Ron divorced in 1976 and soon after Diane enrolled at Texas Christian College where she received a BGS degree in Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations in 1980. Over the coming decades she worked a variety of communications jobs, including for the Ft. Worth Opera. She eventually became an entrepreneur, as founder/editor of the "DFW Metroplex Women’s Yellow Pages" and later cofounder of the Uniglobe Destiny Travel Agency in Dallas Texas.
In Dallas she was an active member of the Preston Road Church of Christ, a place she’d continue to refer to as her church home for the rest of her life. While attending Preston Road she met, fell in love with and later married Raph Tildon Sweet in 1993. The couple settled in the Bryan Place neighborhood in Dallas until 1996 when Ralph's declining health motivated them to move to Austin Texas where they could be closer to extended family.
In Austin Ralph and Diane resided at Village Christian Apartments, a senior community that Ralph helped establish as a prior deacon of the Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ. Unfortunately their time together at Village Christian was short, as Ralph’s condition worsened and he passed later in 1996. In time Diane’s parents Virgil and Miriam would also move to Village Christian and Diane assisted in their care until they too passed.
Throughout her time in Austin, Diane continued to explore her interests in the Arts, frequently attending performances of the Austin Opera and Symphonic Orchestras. She worked part-time at Harvey-Daco and later at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home. Diane was an active member of the Village Christian Community, volunteering transportation for the residents and helping to organize the annual fund-raising bazaar. Diane would continue to live at Village Christian until 2019, when she moved to the Orchard Park of Kyle Community.
Diane leaves this life with the love of her children and grandchildren and the friendship of the many people who she touched along the way.
Due to concerns about COVID there will be a private family-only memorial at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills. Friends are invited to attend the outdoor graveside service on Friday August 6 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Diane is survived by her sons: Colin Luther of Capitola, California, Chris Luther of Austin, Clay Luther and his husband Chris Pearce of Dallas; grandchildren: Ryan Luther, Cameron Luther.
