Diane DeVooght Key

Diane Joyce DeVooght was born March 23, 1950 in Marquette, Michigan to Paul and Verena (Honig) DeVooght. The family moved to Austin, Texas when Diane was about 3 years old, and she lived there ever since. Diane and her husband, John William Key, were married July 16, 1977 at the Cathedral of St. Mary in Austin. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Education at Southwest Texas State University in 1978. Their daughter, Colleen, was born in 1985.

Diane loved being involved in many different social and volunteering opportunities. Volunteering with her daughter's class led to her eventual employment as the Teacher's Aide in charge of the computer lab at Barrington Elementary School, where she worked until her retirement in 2010 despite her threats to follow her daughter from school to school as she got older. Diane was a Troop Leader and Assistant Leader for Girl Scout Troop #317, involving herself in many hijinks and shenanigans yet remaining a positive role model for young girls. She was a fervent supporter of the Pro-Life movement and worked with the Texas Alliance for Life and other groups to end abortion. Diane has also been involved with the Austin Daylily Society for several years, enthusiastically supported by John because the more daylilies that are planted, the less yard there is to mow! Diane participated in the Capital 10K race every year since its second year, and was planning on doing this year's race with a bib tagged “Cancer Sucks”, and inspired many to get out and run/walk/stroll to the finish with her.

Diane is survived by her devoted husband, John; daughter Colleen (James) Vranish of Maryland and grandchildren Joseph, Patrick, Daniel, and Rita; brother Frank (Chris) DeVooght of DelValle; and her niece, nephews, and their children scattered across Texas. Diane was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Verena (Honig) DeVooght; sister Ann; brother Duane; and parents-in-law William and Rosemarie (Coffee) Key.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 6 at 5pm, followed by a Rosary at 6pm, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas, 78752. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 7 at the University Catholic Center, 2010 University Ave, Austin, Texas 78705 at 10:00am, followed by a reception.
