Derrick, a native of Beaumont, Texas, was born on September 23, 1976, to Deborah Campbell. He was a proud product of the Beaumont Independent School District attending Blanchette Elementary, Vincent Middle and graduated from Westbrook High School in May of 1995. Derrick pursued higher education at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana, McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana and graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Derrick was an active member of West Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas, under the leadership of Reverend Robert E. Campbell, Sr. He professed his faith at an early age and was baptized by Pastor Campbell in 1983. Derrick and his family were current members of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. EJ Kemper, III in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
At the age of 16, Derrick landed his first job at Kentucky Fried Chicken. He held several other jobs prior to his employment with Citgo Refinery in 2005, where he worked as a Chief Operator. He remained a faithful and dedicated employee until his passing.
Derrick reconnected and married the love of his life, Dana on September 15, 2018 and blended their beautiful family.
Derrick had many pastimes, which included watching his Tennessee Titans, reuniting with his classmates from the Class of 1995, and spending time with his family and loved ones. He especially cherished watching his children pursue their dreams, whether through sports or pageants; but most of all, he loved relaxing in his garage.
Derrick is preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Reverend Robert E. Campbell, Sr. and Doris Ann Campbell; father-in-law, Rev. Frank Edison, Jr. and grandmother-in-law, Sarah Alfred.
He is survived by his wife, Dana M. Randle-Campbell; five children, Jordan Rideau, Kaleb Joshua Campbell, DaJanae McKenzie Hunter, Jaden Nicole Hunter and Phillip D.W. Hunter; bonus daughter, ZaTaeyiah Nickerson-Lomax; mother, Deborah Campbell- Washington (Gerald); brother, Robert E. Campbell, Jr. (Eunice); sisters, Gwendolyn Jones, Katherine Campbell and Tiffany Derry (William); mother-in-law, Debra Edison; fur babies, Bullet Eugene Campbell and Bubbles Michelle Campbell, several godchildren and a host of other family and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
