Debra Lynn Durham entered heaven on March 12th, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her three-year fight she was always determined and strong; always with a smile and an indomitable attitude. Debra was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by Gordon Isam, their daughter, Jessica and their granddaughter, Rally Jayne Telano.
She was born in Muleshoe, Texas, on May 15th, 1955, and graduated from Lubbock Monterey High School in 1973. Her time in the Panhandle gave her a lifelong interest in Western history and novels. Debra moved to Austin in 1975. On February 3rd, 1980, she married Gordon Isam, and two years later gave birth to daughter Jessica Lynn Isam.
Blessed with good taste and an artistic eye, Debra gravitated toward interior design as a profession. Following a stint at Calico Corners she joined ABC Blind & Drapery in 1999 and retired in 2013. She proved to be a natural at helping hundreds of residential and commercial clients turn their spaces into beautiful interiors. She designed the window treatments for the LBJ Suite in the Driscoll Hotel, as well as the Oval Office in the LBJ Library when it was remodeled. Her clients raved about her creative design ideas and attention to detail, and in the process many became lifetime friends.
In her spare time Debra plied her artistic skills in searching out antiques and interesting artifacts. She could often be found buying and selling these items at the Antiques Fair at Round Top, where she made many great friends.
Debra’s unconditional love, helpfulness, and generous spirit will be long remembered. She was a wonderful one-of-a-kind person who touched countless lives. We will hold her in our hearts and minds forever.
Services will be held at 10:30 on Friday, March 16th, at Crestview Methodist Church at 1300 Morrow Street, Austin, TX 78757.
Reception will follow services at the McWilliams home. Address to be announced at service.
Debra can be honored and remembered with flowers and/or donations to AGE of Central Texas, www.ageofcentraltx.org.
