David “Lee” Walker, 59, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011. He was born in Austin, Texas on January 27, 1951 to Odis and Nelda Walker. As a young man growing up in Austin, he excelled in sports, especially baseball. He graduated from Reagan High School in Austin in 1969.
Always interested in aviation, Lee trained as a career pilot at Central Texas College, receiving an Associate in Applied Science degree in 1972. He worked at Walker Tire Company, his family’s business, for almost 40 years. In his free time, Lee’s favorite activities were hunting, fishing, cooking and enjoying life with his family and friends. He was actively involved with Wimberley Church of Christ.
Lee was a loving husband and father. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his generosity, loyalty, and unconditional love and acceptance. Lee’s Christian faith was evident in the way he cared for other people. He will be greatly missed by his family, as well as his many friends and loyal customers.
He is survived by his wife Sue, his son David and wife Julie of Austin, daughter Emily Chumchal and husband Matt of Fort Worth, grandchildren Tate and Grant Walker, and Ella and Lily Chumchal. He is also survived by his parents, Odis and Nelda Walker; brothers, Wayne Walker and wife Regan and Roy Walker, all of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A memorial service and reception will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Hyde Park Church of Christ, 310 West 43rd Street, in Austin.
In lieu of flowers, Lee requested that donations be made to the Central Texas Children’s Home, 1925 Crane Rd., Buda, TX, 78610.
