David Michael Stried

David Michael Stried, 74, of Austin, Texas was welcomed into Jesus’ loving arms on May 12, 2023. David was born to Oliver and Alice Stried on May 6, 1949, in Taylor, Texas. He grew up in Round Rock, Texas, and was dedicated to FFA and playing sports, most notably baseball and football. Early in his career, David was a carpenter with his father at Stried Construction in Round Rock. He married his beautiful wife, Rita Schneider, on August 8, 1968. David was baptized on October 25, 1970, at Hyde Park Baptist Church. He served six years in the Texas National Guard. David graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1973 with a degree in Agricultural Business and in 1975 purchased the mechanic shop Empire Automotive in downtown Austin until it closed its garage doors 34 years later in 2009. In 1975, David & Rita were blessed with a daughter, Shana.

David was a strong athlete and enjoyed baseball, football, tennis, bowling, softball, water skiing, snow skiing and golf. Many memories were created with family & friends on the softball field, bowling alley, lake, golf course and mountains. He had a servant heart and was always ready & willing to help anyone.

David was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor in 2006. He fought valiantly each day. Due to the effects of treatment and a series of seizures, David lost the mobility of his left side and from 2011, spent his days in a skilled nursing facility. David never complained while enduring so many difficulties. Throughout his 12 years in the nursing facility, he continued to be a blessing to others -- his family, the facility staff, and other residents. We were often told he was a favorite at the facility.

David is preceded in death by his parents (Oliver and Alice Stried). David is survived by his wife Rita of 54 years and daughter Shana Koehler (Karl) and granddaughters Kaylie & Alyssa Koehler. Brother Ronnie Stried (Janice), Sisters Barbara Stried (Jeanie) and Nancy Stried and nephew Brad Stried (T-Jay) with children Sam and Charley.
