David Jennings Shaw, age 64, passed away in Austin on September 15, 2006, following a brief illness. He was born in Tyler, Texas on December 11, 1941 and lived as a child in New London, Texas, where his parents worked with the New London Public Schools. Mr. Shaw graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1959. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1963 with a degree in government, and he received his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1966. During his undergraduate years, Mr. Shaw worked as a summer camp counselor at the Lions' Club Camp for Children in Kerrville, and during law school, he served as a house parent at the Texas School for the Deaf. He served for two years in the U. S. Army, stationed at the Pentagon, and he worked as an assistant city attorney for the City of Austin prior to entering private law practice. Mr. Shaw was an accomplished pianist and an avid movie buff. He was a frequent election judge and greatly enjoyed his weekly bridge game. His friends and family will long remember his wry sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his father, Alf J. Shaw of Pasadena; his grandparents, Ed and Jessie Parish of Huntsville & George and Althea Shaw of Henderson; and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother, Ann Parish Shaw of Houston; his sister, Marjorie Shaw of Dallas; numerous aunts and cousins; and a coterie of loyal Austin friends. Mr. Shaw's family thanks these friends for their caring and concern during his illness. Special gratitude is extended to Dr. Edward Kluth and Mr. George Wyche, whose selfless support was invaluable. Mr. Shaw's remains will be cremated and his ashes interred near generations of his family members in Huntsville and Henderson. A memorial service is planned for later this year.
