David A. Chambers

David Arlen Chambers was born January 29, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas to Laura and Gib Chambers. He and his older sister, Betty, and parents moved to Mission, Kansas where he finished high school at Shawnee Mission High School. He enrolled in Junior College and took up his all time favorite sport, basketball. He was the scrappiest forward on the team which led to his love of the Lakers and the Warriors. It was there that he joined a reserve group and was called to active duty with the US Navy

Intelligence in 1952. There he served for two years as a Code Breaker on the island of Guam.

Returning from the service, Dave attended Kansas State graduating with a Bachelors in Business, and going to work for Conoco for over 8 years. During those years, Dave had his son Mark, in 1957 with his first wife, Mary Ann. Post Conoco, Dave ventured out on his own as a Petroleum Landman forming his own company, Amber Oil Company, drilling wells in Kansas and Oklahoma.

In those next few years Dave’s love for the University of Oklahoma Sooners paled in comparison to his new found love with Martha Perkins, who he met in the fall of 1975. Marrying in 1977, Martha brought a high school Senior and 8th grader to the union, Chris and Clark Perkins. Those years were tons of fun with OU trips to football, basketball and whatever excuses they could find to spy on their kids.

During those years of his growing business, Dave was very involved in the American Association of Petroleum Landmen of which he received his 50 year certificate just this week. In addition, he achieved the highest ranking as a Certified Professional Landman.

Angel Fire, New Mexico will always hold special memories for the family. Their cabin was used for snow skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, dirt biking and very tame college boy visits. The cabin was sold in 1998 and ushered in a brand new California era!!!

In 1998 Martha and Dave purchased a home in Palm Desert, CA. Dave tried out Resort Golf, Ping Pong, the Republican Club, and Concerts Club. Martha excelled in Tap, Water Aerobics and Travel Club just to name a few. They went to concerts, tasted wines, shopped on the Coast and started their 2nd careers as Cruise Professionals. They went on over 20 cruises and eventually decided on the Mediterranean and Alaska as their all time favorite destinations.

Martha and Dave loved their years in California, but due to the declining health of Dave, chose to move to Austin in January of 2019. They approached the move with the best of attitudes viewing it all as their New Adventure. Sadly, that adventure was cut way too short on the morning of August 7th upon Dave’s passing.

Dave was predeceased in death by his stepson Clark Perkins and is survived by his wife Martha Chambers, his son Mark David Chambers and his stepson, Chris Perkins. Dave was also the loving grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was a man who loved well and was well loved by many. He will be missed so very much.

The family has designated the American Lung Association for memorial contributions.
