August 9, 1962 – December 22, 2022
Darryll Porter passed away December 22 in Austin, TX, at the age of 60. He was a successful businessman, entrepreneur and beloved by friends and family.
Darryll Porter was born on August 9, 1962 in El Paso, TX, to Betty and Jack Porter. He was the third of four children, raised in Las Cruces, NM, next door to his best friend, Sam Aguirre. His siblings are Don (Becca) of Spring, TX; Renee Sena (Louie), of Albuquerque, NM; Dennis (Deb) of Las Vegas, NV. His partner of many years, Tara Gigliotti of Lawrence Township, New Jersey and her children, Raina, Tom, John, and Magdeline loved him and will dearly miss him. He was the cool Uncle to fourteen nieces and nephews: Lisa, Celina, Gina, JD, Curtis, David, Myda, Christopher, Risa, Annalise, Sam, Alexis, Melissa, Belle.
Darryll graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and had an immediate impact on the business world incorporating his accounting classes with information technology savvy to create a unique skill set for the time.
Darryll’s business career was a great success with executive positions as a CEO, CFO and COO but his legacy will be the teams of people he assembled in each of his assignments. Among those who moved alongside him in several ventures were Landon Morales, Steve Stickney, Matt Thomson, Grant Wegner, Craig Massey, Phil DeBono , Ryan Campbell and Mike Nassar. He succeeded in vastly different business sectors, heavy manufacturing and cosmetic surgery, but the circles of friends were always the same, joyful and loyal to his integrity and work ethic. He was also an entrepreneur starting several businesses during his career. His curiosity knew few bounds as he spent time in culinary school and auditing medical courses in his cosmetic surgery business stint.
Darryll lived around the USA in several states as a young businessman and included a time in Puerto Rico. His favorite homestead was the Ft Lauderdale, FL, area. He travelled the world in his assignments growing to adore Costa Rica.
The family was surprised by his choice of the business world because of his innate ability to talk to animals. As a child, he spent hours watching spiders spin webs, snake shedding skins and calling muskrats to sit in his lap. Darryll calmly sat in the middle of West Texas deserts and New Mexico forests patiently waiting for critters of all sizes to approach him which they always did. As a teenager, he had a falconer’s license and trained hawks. The creatures on this earth will notice the void of this unique man as he, his Mom, and the creatures of Heaven exchange smirks, Darryll’s trademark expression.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldenfuneralhome.com for the Porter family.
