Dan was a great sponsor. I had the privilege of spending a lot of time with Colonel from 2020 to 2022. We rode to many many meetings together. I am still attempting to emulate Colonel's behavior:
1. Daily prayers - Jesus Calling, Jesus Always, Hazelden 24 hr, Richard Rohr's email.
2. Chair meetings
3. Help Newcomers
4. Arrive early, stay late.
5. Don't let a pandemic or anything interrupt your in person meetings
6. I love everyone and there is nothing they can do about it.
7. Repeat "God I need Your Help" throughout the day.

I moved to Kentucky in 2022 and I had the pleasure of speaking to Colonel in February, 2024 by phone. When I asked him if he could still attend BTS Meetings, he was very emotional when he said he could not. We both have a great love for BTS Meetings.

God allowed my wife and I to have dinner with Phyllis and Colonel on February 18, 2024. My wife and I will be forever grateful for that dinner. God doesn't make many Dan Waddles.

A wonderful Officer, Gentleman, and Patriot that I knew as a high school student in Naples, Italy. Colonel Waddle and my father were both stationed at AFSOUTH NATO HQ,  where I attended HS with his kids, Michelle, and Scott. He will be missed dearly but know that he is now resting in peace.

Col. Dan is how I knew him.  I didn't know his last name, but I didn't need to.  I never had to look for him because he was always there.  In the same seat every day.  I counted on this, got inspiration for him every day, and learned at his knee, so to speak.  My favorite? Good morning, this is God. I'll take care of everything and I don't need your help. Enjoy your day!  I have many Dan-isms that I will pass on just like he did.  He lives forever just like good heroes do.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is the world's loss. Dan was one of the finest men I knew and I would like to share this story. I went on the Walk to Emmaus with Dan. Had not met him before and, as we traveled there separately, I was only introduced to him at a dinner before we arrived. I asked Dan about his background and I was in awe of his military service and became instantly attached to him. At Emmaus, we started by having the attendees in a circle go around the room and introduce themselves and tell about their lives. When I saw that I was to go after Dan, I immediately thought of all he had accomplished in his life and thought what an impossible story to follow. However, when it got to Dan, he stood up and said nothing about his background but, rather, talked all about his family, especially his children.  At that moment, I knew that Dan was much more than all of his personal accomplishments - he was a loving husband and father. He later introduced me to his son, Scott, who I was fortunate to spend some time with and that was an another blessing for me and my family. Dan will be missed but I know where he is and that God will cherish having Dan by His side. God bless Dan Waddle and his family.

Dan was a dear friend of mine for many years and will be remebered for his shares about God and his connection to his higher power. He made an impact on our entire family.  Sending LOVE to Phylis and the whole family.....

I deeply appreciate my connection with Col. Dan as I was present at his very first meeting at Unity. He said many a wise word from the get-go! His ability to love unconditionally touched (and changed) so many lives.  What a wonderful human being.

I moved from Austin 5 years ago but the lessons learned from Col Dan stay with me. I can hear him saying at BTS “I love you, and there’s nothin’ you can do about it”. 
My deepest sympathy to the family and the Austin AA community!

It was a real pleasure to know Dan.. being a combat veteran we had several things in common..I always ejoyed his stories and perspective, he was a leader and a good listener. Thank you Dan for your contribution,  friendship and honesty.

So sorry to hear about Dan’s passing. I met him many years ago and although I wasn’t close to him, he had a profound effect on me. His courage and dedication to whatever he pursued was admirable. My sympathy to his family.

I will forever be touched to have had the honor and privilege of Dan asking me be his sponser and telling me he thought we think alot alike. I consider it to be the pinnacle of my recovery path and hope to pay forward his message and love of God and AA.

Dan was a good man who will be missed. I 
have always bee fascinated by airplanes and really enjoyed talking with Dan about the various fighters he flew in service to our country.  God speed Dan.

Dan , Crested Butte Mountain conference will never be the same without you. You made the morning meetings I always look forward to seeing you may God bless you sir. Thank you for your service to our country. And thank you to your service to our program of AA. Where if there was a colonel you truly would be one. Love Dan G.

Colonel Dan, I am saddened by your passing, and at the same time have immense gratitude for all you shared in the rooms.  Your brutal honesty was always what I needed to hear.  It was easy for me to relate to you as a fellow Veteran.  No matter what, when things get tough, I always remember 5 simple words that you taught me:  "God, I need your help."
