Curtis Benton Figer, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 9, 1930, in Buda, Texas, to Oscar and Lettie Figer. He and his wife Billie celebrated 64 years of marriage on May 20. They loved to dance to classic country western music; often they were the first couple on the dance floor and could two-step or polka for hours.
He was a career banker with 38 years at Capital National Bank/Texas Commerce Bank/Chase Bank and 10 years on the board of Coupland State Bank. A life-time farmer and cattleman, he loved being outside and taught his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends and family a love of the outdoors
He could fix anything and make anything. Mending fences on the farm became second nature. He built barns and stables from the ground up with his own hands. During varied and numerous training sessions, he passed his skills on to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and anyone who worked with him on the farm. He was always patient, willing to explain and demonstrate repeatedly. "Cousin Work Weekend" became an annual event, bringing his grandchildren together to help with upkeep on the farm.
He immediately befriended everyone he met. Whether his new friend was a waitress at his favorite restaurant or the person sitting next to him at a cattle auction, he would instantly share his love, wisdom, and stories.
He was also a devoted family man, involved in many of his children's activities, serving as band parent, PTA President, Cub Scout Leader, and Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts.
Survived by wife, Billie Jo Figer; sister, Dell Cooper of Austin; sister, Jean and husband, Jill Greeson of Cameron; son, Mike Figer and wife, Cindy of Dripping Springs; daughter, Bonnie Harmon and husband, Keith of Arlington; son, Donald Figer and wife, Pamela of Austin; daughter, Betsy Lambeth and husband, Brad Curlee of Round Rock; grandchildren, Laura and Dave Loveless, Ashley and Lucas Pointer, Emily and Larry Juergens, Shannon and Clint Lowe, Andrew and Dana Figer, Benjamin and Desiree Figer, Shelby and Kevin Thurston, Christine and Tyler Weaver, Patrick and Katy Figer, and Brady Lambeth; 13 great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); and many nieces and nephews.
