Cruz Valenzuela Rodriguez, has gone to be with the angels, joining her parents, Epifanio Sr. and Bernardina Valenzuela, six sisters and one brother. Cruz was born on May 3rd, 1926 in Cedar Creek, Texas and passed peacefully on February 19th, 2024 in Austin, Texas. Cruz was preceded in death by her husband Juan P. and son Robert.
Cruz is survived by daughters Luci, Lydia (Rudy), Sandra, sons John Albert and James Rodriguez, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and Epifanio Valenzuela, Jr., her devoted brother and last sibling of the Valenzuela family.
Mother grew up in Cedar Creek and resided in Austin. Mother was always an active, self-sufficient strong woman until falling ill with pneumonia w/Covid complications the last week of her long full life. Cruz worked and retired from Saint Edward’s University.
Mother was a devoted Catholic, she prayed the rosary daily, a loving home-maker, hard worker and friend to many whom she met along her lifetime. Mother loved and was dedicated to her grandchildren. Cruz had a passion for baking, sewing (self-taught) and enjoyed working on her seek and find books.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank her dear friends, Lucy Marmalejo, Mary Lyons and Jacinta Gonzales for their loyal and long-lasting friendship.
We, her surviving family wish to thank the Valenzuela and Rodriguez relatives for the prayers, love and support extended to us during this difficult time.
A short visitation at 12 pm, followed immediately at 12:30 pm with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary, Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 1pm at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Avenue, Austin, TX 78704.
Honoring mother as pallbearers will be Anthony Contreras, Michael Rodriguez, Diane Rodriguez, Esteban Acosta, James Laizure and Rudy Hernandez.
Interment at Cook Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery, 13700 N Interstate Hwy 35 Pflugerville,TX 78660
Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to Saint Ignatius Catholic School or to the Congregation of Holy Cross Brothers at Saint Edward’s University.
