Cruz Arizpe Delgado Sr., aged 84, of Buda, Texas, passed into eternal rest on November 11, 2024. Born on May 3, 1940, to Francisco P. Delgado and Natalia Arizpe Delgado in San Antonio, Texas, Cruz was a man of commendable dedication and service.
A proud alumnus of South San Antonio High School, Cruz carried his love for music from his days in the high school band, where he played the saxophone, into his later years. His academic journey continued at the University of Texas, further anchoring his lifelong connection to the state.
Cruz's commitment to his country was evident through his extensive military career. Briefly serving in the Navy, he then transitioned to the Army, where he served with honor and distinction for 28 years, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. Upon completion of his military service, Cruz embarked on a career with the United States Postal Service, where he remained a steadfast employee for 32 years until his retirement. He was awarded 55 years as a lifelong civil servant.
An enthusiast of football, he spent many an autumn day cheering for the Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys, a testament to his Texas roots and love for the game.
Cruz leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Mercedes Loera Delgado; his children, Cruz (Esmeralda) Delgado and Rebecca Delgado; his brother, Nicholas Delgado; his grandchildren, David Adolph Morales Jr., Katherine Marie Moore, Cruz Andrew Delgado; as well as six great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He now joins his parents, Francisco and Natalia, in everlasting peace.
Cruz's life was one of service, love, and joyous moments shared with family and friends. His memory will be held in the highest regard and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
A visitation for Cruz will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704. A recitation of the holy rosary will occur Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will occur Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Ave, Austin, TX 78704. A graveside service will occur Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX 78704.
