Conrado Gonzales died September 21, 2017 in Austin, TX. He was a humble, loving, and strong man of faith who was loved by all who knew him.
Conrado was born in the spring of 1932 to Manuel Gonzales and Lucila Garza Gonzales on a ranch outside of Rio Hondo, TX in the Rio Grande Valley. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and, after being discharged worked on his family's ranch tending to livestock and cultivating the land. He married the love of his life, Mercedes Lugo Gonzales, on December 22, 1963.
Over the years, Conrado lived in both Austin and Harlingen. He worked as an air conditioning technician for Fox Service Company and Sears, and he also taught vocational courses for Texas State Technical College and Harlingen High School.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his only brother Ricardo Gonzales, and his sisters, Olivia Gonzales, Tomasa Gonzales Gracia. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Mercedes, and his two children, Conrado Gonzales, Jr. and Anna Olivia Gonzales-Foyt, both of whom are public school teachers in Austin. Conrado is also survived by his three sisters, Edna Tamayo of Harlingen, Sylvia Perez of Brownsville, and Marcela Montalvo of San Benito along with other beloved family and friends too numerous to name here. He took pride in and loved dearly his five grandchildren: Esteban (a junior at the University of Arkansas), Olivia: (a freshman at the University of Texas), and Isaac Gonzales (a sophomore at Anderson high school); and Kellen (a freshman at UT Austin) and Sara Foyt (a sophomore at Reagan High School). A memorial mass will be planned in the near future for Conrado in Harlingen, TX.
Rosary will recite on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm, with visitation to follow from 2:00-3:00 pm at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78752.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78757. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery.
