As a boy Del dreamed of flying in the Air Force. One of his assignments after graduating from the Air Force Academy was at Yokota Air Base. In the 36th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Del was deployed to Southeast Asia to fly 17 combat missions over North Vietnam in the F-105. In 1968, Del was assigned to the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base where he flew 124 combat missions, also in the F-105. He also flew and trained aircrews in the F-111.
After retiring from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel, Del worked for the Texas Workers’ Compensation Commission.
Del is survived by his wife Joyce Miller; his mother, Edna Mae Ives; his stepsister, Betty Ellis; stepbrother, Mike Ives; daughters, Stephanie Miller, Tracy Lemmond, and Paige Green; and his son Derek Miller; as well as their children, Luke, Gretchen, Kendrick, Vance, Joyce, Conner, Anderson and Verity.
He was predeceased by his father John F. Miller, his stepfather Allen Ives and his brother Douglas Miller.
There will be a Memorial Service for Del at 10:00 A.M., on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Bannockburn Baptist Church at 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, Texas 78745.
